BIC Construction is proud to have completed the “Green Oasis” schoolyard renovation at Saint Vincent’s Day Home a beloved nonprofit early childhood education center that has served Oakland families since 1911, caring for children from two to six years old. Opened in May 2026, the newly renovated schoolyard transforms a hard, sun exposed play area into a safe, vibrant, and engaging outdoor environment for the children and families of this important Bay Area institution. This playground renovation in Oakland gives the communits youngest members a place to discover, play, and connect with nature every day.
What BIC Construction Delivered
BIC Constructions scope of work included a full outdoor renovation of the toddler yard, with new landscape and hardscape areas redefining the space from edge to edge, framed by a new concrete-clad fence that gives the yard a clean, secure, and finished boundary. New age- appropriate play structures, safety surfacing throughout, and site grading were executed to meet all California playground safety standards pairing a safe play environment with an inspiring outdoor classroom for the Day Home community.
At the heart of the renovation is a collection of features designed with a childs day in mind: new playground equipment built for active play, artificial-rock water fountains that add movement and wonder, and a redwood stump learning garden where children can gather, explore, and learn surrounded by nature. Sail shade structures keep students and teachers cool through the day, while purpose-built sheds add everyday function.
Because the Day Home remained in session throughout, BIC carefully phased the work keeping parts of the yard open for the children to enjoy while construction continued in others, so daily life on campus carried on without interruption. This project also complements BIC Construction’s earlier interior renovation at Saint Vincent’s school building, making BIC a trusted construction partner across multiple phases of campus improvement.
